Liverpool are on the lookout for a new manager after Jurgen Klopp announced his decision to walk away from the club.

Klopp shocked the world of football on Thursday afternoon by confirming that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the current season.

In the hours since, reaction has been filtering in. Initially, there had been suggestions that assistant manager Pep Lijnders might be the man turned to to take over from his long-time boss.

But with it since being announced that Lijnders too will be leaving, that now won’t be happening.

Nevertheless, The Times report that work is already underway for Klopp’s successor to be found. They claim that the German actually told Reds owners FSG of his decision to leave back in November.

As a result, the owners are said to have ‘begun the work’ to identify and bring in Jurgen’s replacement.

No matter how many times you hear the news today, it still doesn’t seem real. Just how can Jurgen Klopp be leaving Liverpool?

Having been at the club for more than eight years, he’s all we’ve known for so long now.

While other teams hired and fired managers, we could rest easy, safe in the knowledge that we’ve got one of the best around and he’s going nowhere.

Well, we better get used to this feeling, because now we’re in limbo. Pulled away from the safety net of Jurgen’s leadership, a new era will dawn at Anfield.

For us, there really is only one man for this job.

It would be a big thing for Xabi Alonso to take on this early into his management career. But surely the timing is perfect for the Spaniard this summer.

Flying with Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso is showing all the signs of being the next big thing in management. Furthermore, he reportedly has a clause allowing him to leave for Liverpool this summer. It all makes sense.

What doesn’t really make sense is Jurgen’s decision to leave tight this moment. He has attempted to explain himself, but we’re still not really any the wiser. Nevertheless, we respect his decision completely. FSG need to get this right, but in our opinion, there’s an easy fix. Go and get Xabi!
