It was a pretty comfortable evening in the first-half for Liverpool against Fulham last night. On paper it didn’t seem like it was going to be. This was an opportunity for Fulham to get to a final, and a place at Wembley. On the whole, we probably expected a little bit more from the home side.
But Liverpool got into their groove early on, and a fortuitous goal from Luis Diaz gave Jurgen Klopp’s side a comfortable lead. That early goal definitely made the atmosphere a little bit more edgy inside Craven Cottage.
And one Liverpool player in Alexis Mac Allister may have got the brunt of it. But fortunately, he had a positive reaction to what was spotted by a journalist in the crowd.

According to The Athletic journalist, James Pearce, one Fulham fan in particular hurled abuse at Mac Allister by calling him a Fulham reject. But the Argentinian thankfully merely laughed off the ridiculous claim.
Jibes, and taunts are part and parcel in the game. The Fulham fan’s claim was so outrageous you can only laugh at it really. Mac Allister did the right thing. That’s exactly how a true professional footballer reacts to abuse from the crowd. And he gave his full answer with another terrific performance for Liverpool.
That desperate taunt sums up the desperation of Fulham fans on the night. Things just simply didn’t go their way, and Liverpool definitely deserved to go through overall. For the Reds this will just one final of many, but for Fulham this was a rare opportunity missed.
