Even though there is still over a week left in the January transfer window, Liverpool are not expected to be active in the market. The club prefer to do business in the summer. With a longer window, there is more time for Liverpool to conduct business and secure preferred targets.

In the summer, there is also the prospect of pre-season – which allows new players to be bedded in and acclimatise to Jurgen Klopp’s style of play. These various factors mean definitely influence Liverpool’s decision making in the winter window.

However, it’s not unheard of for the club to make a move. Especially if a potential long-term target becomes available. Just like it was the case with Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz in the last two years. Both were initially seen as summer targets, but the Reds moved to sign them early instead after they became available in January.

With Liverpool’s current target though, this may be the other way around.

Victor Osimhen latest

According to CalcioMercato‘s report from a few months ago, the Reds have been in contact with Victor Osimhen. Napoli signed the Nigerian for roughly £70m (ESPN) a few years ago, and he is now regarded as one of the best forwards in the world.

Now he’s been speaking about his future to CBS Sports Golazo, and Osimhen has revealed he may have already made-up his mind about his next move.

“The rumour is going around about me being linked with the Premier League, but of course, in terms like this when you are one of the hottest strikers in the globe, you expect this type of thing,” Osimhen said.

“And of course the EPL is one of the biggest and best league in the whole world. For me, now I’m with Napoli I signed a new contract. I’m enjoying my time there, going through it with the team.”

“At the end of the season I think I already made-up my mind, I already know what I want to do with my career. Since I’ve started, I’ve been the one making my own decisions and everything is working out well for me, even though when I started it didn’t go so well as planned. But I already have my plan, I already know what I want to do, and the next step I want to take. So for now I just want to finish the season strong, and go relax somewhere with my daughter, think about my life and then finally come-up with a decision I’ve already made.”

Only time will tell what that decision entails. It is no secret Liverpool have always kept Osimhen on their radar. And while a striker is not a priority for Jurgen Klopp’s side – you just never know.
