The next step in Liverpool’s rebuild is the defence. Having mostly sorted out the problems in midfield, Jurgen Klopp must now turn to the centre-back question. The Liverpool boss has quite a few ageing players in that department.

It would make sense for Klopp to invest in a younger, more long-term option either in this window or in the summer. All the implications so far have suggested that Liverpool’s business will mostly be conducted in the summer.

The Reds are unlikely to make any new additions in the January window. However, that does not mean that the club is not working behind the scenes. According to the latest reports, they are already making advances for an exciting prospect.

French outlet Le10Sport report that Liverpool and Manchester City are leading the race for Leny Yoro’s signature from Lille. According to the outlet the two clubs are in more advanced negotiations for the 18-year-old’s services than Paris Saint Germain – who are also interested.

Yoro is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents coming through the ranks in France. This season he has been hugely impressive and leads the statistics in several key defensive metrics.

Yoro has also caught the eye of French legend Thierry Henry, who has dubbed the young defender as ‘extraordinary‘ for what he has done in Ligue 1 so far.

He will not be a cheap signing though. Le10Sport’s report claims Lille want at least £77m for the Frenchman’s services. Which is a premium price for a defender.
