Harvey Elliott has praised the recent displays of Liverpool teammate Curtis Jones.
Jones has been brilliant lately, culminating in a top performance against Newcastle United last week. Jurgen Klopp called that display ‘special,’ while Alan Shearer commented this week that the 22-year-old is playing his best football yet.
And speaking to liverpoolfc.com alongside Jones yesterday, Elliott added his voice to that choir. The 20-year-old also hailed a perhaps underrated side of Curtis’ game: his work-rate.
“I think he’s brought a whole new dynamic to the team,” raved Elliott. “To go into the team is one thing, but to establish yourself and cement your place is another and week in, week out he’s performed to the best of his ability. He’s cemented his spot and shown not only us, who know his talent, but the world as well.
“He’s affecting games in many ways. Cody [Gakpo] said it in an interview the other day, the guy works so, so hard off the pitch, and not many people can see it, but I think in his performances it shows.
“The whole of Liverpool is so proud of him, and hopefully he can keep going and playing the way he is.”
Elliott praises Jones’ hard work
Some still may not see it with Jones, but there’s a reason Klopp absolutely loves having him in the starting XI.
As Elliott suggests, the Scouser simply has a little bit of everything you’d want. Formerly an exciting forward through the youth teams, Jones has adapted to become a truly complete midfielder.
That may sound like hyperbole, but he really does have it all. He’s big, he’s strong in the challenge, he looks after the ball, uses it cleverly, can run, can score, can assist.
The only thing Curtis could perhaps add a little more of to his game is in the goals department. He’s certainly not a long-ranger blaster in the mould of a Steven Gerrard.

But looking back through the Klopp years, that has never really been what the manager has asked of from his midfielders.
They’ve never been players who score more than five or six per season. Jones can easily be that for Liverpool. He’s bagged three already this term.
23 later in the month, now is the time for Curtis to really kick on and nail down his place in this team. Although many would already have him as part of a best XI, not everybody is convinced.
Elliott is one who is. And if Jones can consistently turn in displays like the one against Newcastle last Monday, it won’t be long before everyone else is, too.
