Ally McCoist really wants Liverpool to sign 25-year-old player to replace Mohamed Salah

Right now Liverpool only have to think about replacing Mohamed Salah in the short-term while he is away at the African Cup of Nations. However, sooner or later the club will have to start thinking about his replacement in the long-term as well.

Salah will be turning 32-years-old later this year. He has just entered the last 18-months of his deal. Even if he renews his current contract, it’s clear Liverpool cannot expect him to remain at Anfield in the long-term.

Eventually, the ravages of time will catch-up with his body – just like they catch-up with every fallible human being on the planet. But Liverpool will want to have already replaced Salah by the time that happens.

Ally McCoist on the perfect Mohamed Salah heir

There are few players who can replace Mohamed Salah in world football. He is up there with the best in the world right now.

However, speaking on talkSPORT, Ally McCoist revealed one man who he would ‘love’ to see do the job for Liverpool in Kylian Mbappe. Although he believes a potential deal is unlikely to happen with Real Madrid a more probable destination.

“He’s got to move, he’s got to go to Real Madrid,” McCoist said. “I mean, I don’t think anybody and there’s talk of Liverpool and all that stuff, but I cannot in any way, shape or form see that happening.

“I’d love to see it [Mbappe replacing Salah] but I don’t think it will happen. I actually probably believe there’s only one club that he can go to and that’s Real Madrid.”

McCoist is probably not wrong. Real Madrid look the likeliest to pull off a deal for Mbappe. But if somehow Liverpool can work-out a way to lure the Frenchman to Anfield, then there is no doubt he would be the perfect successor to Salah’s throne.
