Amidst all the Liverpool players having their loan contracts terminated and returning back to Anfield, another returnee has gone under the radar.

So far Liverpool have recalled four players in total with Fabio Carvalho, Owen Beck, Rhys Williams and James Balagizi all coming back to the club after spending the first six months of the season away from Jurgen Klopp’s side.

But it’s not just the quartet who are returning to the club this month. Unlike the four others, Nat Phillips didn’t have to be recalled from his loan spell to come back to Liverpool – his contract has already expired.

Nat Phillips to return

Phillips only joined Celtic on a six month short-term loan deal which expired at the end of December. Now the 26-year-old centre-back is back training with Liverpool and he will provide important depth in the first team.

Speaking in his latest press conference as per Liverpool’s official YouTube channel, Jurgen Klopp admitted Phillips loan spell at Celtic hadn’t gone according to plan, and that now he will train with the club’s first team at the AXA training centre again.

“Nat, it didn’t work out 100 per cent a Celtic. Little bit of injuries but if a team like Celtic is in a positive moment and you’re in the team you stay in the team. If you have a knock at a positive moment then you might go out. That says nothing about the quality,” Klopp said.

“Nat will train with us and then we will see how that develops.”

Klopp also added that the club will only make a transfer decision about Phillips’ future towards the end of the month.

“Nat we have to see, we have to consider our own situation and stuff like this. He will definitely be with us until the end of the month. Then we will have talks and see our situation, that’s how it is.”
