Celtic have reportedly ruled themselves out of signing Nat Phillips again in the January transfer window with the defender due to return to Liverpool.

The 26-year-old centre-back joined the Hoops in the summer in a bid to regain match fitness and establish himself at one of the biggest clubs in the United Kingdom.

However, Phillips‘ move to Celtic hasn’t gone to plan, with the Liverpool academy graduate making just six appearances in all competitions for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

And as a result, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, Celtic will not make a renewed attempt to bring Phillips back to Glasgow in the January transfer window.

Indeed, the Hoops have suffered back-to-back league defeats and crashed out of Europe earlier this month, with Phillips hardly doing a thing for Celtic amid all this chaos.

Therefore, it’s perhaps no real surprise that Celtic have little interest in bringing Phillips back to Parkhead, with so much work needing to be done in the winter market.

There was a lot of excitement when Phillips joined Celtic in the summer, with the defender looking like a safe bet to star for the Scottish giants in the UEFA Champions League.

However, things just haven’t gone right for Phillips at all in Glasgow, and a return to Liverpool feels like the safest option as we approach the January window.

With reports that another loan move will be arranged for Phillips already in the rumour mill, Liverpool seem to be getting to work to ship out the 26-year-old.

Lauded as ‘superb’ by Sven Mislintat, it won’t be long before Phillips is back out there on loan with a top club, with the defender also an outside bet to feature for Liverpool next year.
