West Ham United forward Michail Antonio has said that Liverpool have one of the Premier League’s top players.
Antonio has often been outspoken about Liverpool while speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast alongside Callum Wilson.
Having upset Reds fans with some of his comments in the past though, they’ll be pleased to hear what the 33-year-old has to say on this occasion.
Commenting on how the Premier League compares to other top divisions around Europe, Antonio reeled off a list of ‘world-class’ player in the competition. One Liverpool name found it’s way on there, with no guesses who.
“For me world-class is doing it at the best and being one of the best in the best situation,” explained the Jamaica international. “So for me, Saka is world-class, for me Jesus is world-class, for me Haaland is world-class, for me Mo Salah is world-class.
“Any people in that top four, fighting for the top of the Premier League, they are world-class. Because their outfit is playing in the best league and doing the best.”
Antonio lauds world-class Salah
Although we obviously agree with Antonio that Salah is a world-class player, we’re not completely convinced by his logic here.
In theory, what he’s saying is sound. If you’re doing well for one of the best teams in the best league in the world, then you’re world-class, we get that.
But in our opinion, neither of the Arsenal players Antonio mentions are actually worthy of that tag.
For a start, the two players have just nine goals between them in the Premier League this season. As forwards for one of the top-scoring teams in the division, that’s not great.

Salah and Haaland meanwhile have 14 each. Both have already won big trophies for their teams as big players within that.
In Haaland’s case he’s a proven relentless goal-scorer in three different divisions now, while Mo has been one of the best players in England since his £34m move more than six years ago.
With respect to both Saka and Jesus who are both good players, they’re not at that level. Obviously, there are more important matters to debate, but that’s where we stand on this.
At least we can all agree on one thing, though: Mo Salah is world-class, phenomenal, out of this world and any other superlatives you want to throw at him. What a player.
