Even though Mohamed Salah is not looking like he is going to slow down any time soon, eventually Liverpool will have to seek for an heir to his throne. The Liverpool attacker is not getting any younger and in due course the ravages of time catches up with every mortal soul. Unfortunately even though Salah seems otherworldly – he too is just like us – made of flesh and bone.
Liverpool will hope the Egyptian can continue playing at his current level for several more years. But in the background the club has to prepare for the eventuality that he may ultimately leave – considering he now has just 18 months left on his contract – or that he will start to decline.
In order to minimise the impact of either of those two possibilities, Liverpool has to be proactive and act ahead of time. The Reds may even look to bring in Salah’s heir before he departs the club.
Michael Olise – the perfect candidate?
Recently, The Mirror has reported that Michael Olise’s release clause is just £60m at the moment amid interest from Manchester United in the January window.
Looking at Olise’s profile he is among the few players in the Premier League who you could envision has the potential to replace Salah at Anfield.
Like Salah, Olise is capable of scoring goals and is excellent at cutting into the middle from the right-wing. At the same time he is also creative and doesn’t just score goals but also sets-up his teammates and conjures up chances for them.
This season he has been in brilliant form averaging a goal contribution every 112 minutes in the Premier League. In his last four games, he has also made four goal contributions including scoring in big games against Manchester City and Chelsea.
He’s only turned 22-years-old last month, which means there is still so much room for him to grow and improve. Liverpool would be smart to active his release clause as soon as possible. Especially, with looming interest from Manchester United.
