Former Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has shared his recent experience of playing against Jordan Henderson.
Fabinho and Henderson spent five years together at Liverpool, winning every trophy available to them during that time.
The pair then headed off to join Al Ittihad and Al Ettifaq respectively this summer, in two moves that really caught Liverpool by surprise.
Yesterday, Fabinho was back at Anfield for the first time since that transfer. The 30-year-old took in Liverpool’s barnstorming win over Newcastle United alongside fellow former Brazilian Red Roberto Firmino.
Before the game, LFCTV took the opportunity to catch up with the modern-day Liverpool legends. And one thing everyone wanted to know was just how Fabinho found facing his long-time Reds teammate Henderson, as well as Gini Wijnaldum recently.
“Yes, I played three weeks ago against Hendo and Gini it was a nice experience to play against them,” smiled the defensive midfielder. “To play against Hendo particularly, to have someone always pressing you, always next to you! It was a nice experience, after the game I spent a long time in their dressing room talking to them. It was really nice to seem them, talk to them, to remember a little bit the good times we spent together.”
Fabinho faces Henderson press
How good was it to see these two again? It is perhaps slightly odd that Fab and Bobby weren’t joined by Henderson on Monday night, but it’s best not to read too much into that.
Instead, it’s just a reminder of how fast things move in football. It doesn’t seem long since these two were picking up every trophy in the book with Liverpool.
Now they’re veterans of the game and ex-players, legends, returning to take in a match at their former home.
In time, it would be nice if Henderson could make his own return, too. The captain of eight years left pretty much out the back door in the summer and deserves the chance to say goodbye to a full Anfield.

It must be said though, that on the pitch, Liverpool have not especially missed either Fabinho or Henderson.
As the Brazil international alludes to, Hendo was a one-man pressing machine for the Reds over the years. But with fresh legs now replacing him in the midfield, Liverpool have seemingly upgraded.
Jurgen Klopp was at pains to point out just how good Curtis Jones was with his press yesterday. In Henderson, Jones couldn’t have asked for a better role model in that regard. But now, it’s time for apprentice to take over from the master.
Still, it’s nice to hear that Hendo continues to hare about the pitch and hassle opponents at his new club. Even if those opponents are storied old teammates.
