Liverpool are keeping tabs on potential defensive reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window.
With current injuries to Joel Matip, Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, the Reds are little light in defence. As a result, links continue to arrive for possible January targets.
Although left-back and centre-back are the areas that most urgently need addressing, Liverpool also appear to be in the market for a new right-back.
Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen has been linked, as Jurgen Klopp ponders the possibility of moving Trent Alexander-Arnold into midfield full-time.
And now, CBS Sports have put forward another name that could help Klopp to do that. They claim that Liverpool are interested in Ajax full-back Devyne Rensch.
Arsenal are also said to have been scouting Rensch this season, while Manchester United reportedly admire the 20-year-old, too.
Liverpool looking at Rensch
On paper, Rensch is a player who would make an awful lot of sense for Liverpool.
As well as largely being deployed at right-back, the Dutchman is also capable of playing at centre-back too. With the Reds searching for the right player to bolster the middle of their defence, he’s an interesting option.
It isn’t the first time we’ve seen Rensch’s name come up in connection to Liverpool. He was mentioned as being on their radar back in April as well.
But having stayed at Ajax this summer, the youngster has continued to be a key man this season.

Having already played over 100 times for his boyhood club, Rensch is already a full international for the Netherlands, too.
As a result, if Liverpool are vying with Arsenal and United for his signature, then they may have a trump card to play: Virgil van Dijk.
In fact, Rensch has already spoken publicly about the Reds’ captain. Back in 2021, the official Ajax YouTube channel asked him to name who was better, Van Dijk or fellow Netherlands teammate Matthijs de Ligt.
“Matthijs is still so young. I think it has to be Virgil,” said Rensch. “I see a lot of videos now where he [Van Dijk] is coaching others and stuff.” Maybe Devyne will soon be one of those on the receiving end of Virgil’s wisdom.
