Daniel Agger has named a dream five-a-side team based on his former teammates at Liverpool.
Having spent eight-and-a-half years at Anfield between 2006 and 2014, Agger certainly has plenty of choice here.
But asked to name five of the best by Liverpool legend John Aldridge on the Aldo Meets Podcast, the Dane was fairly certain on who he was choosing.
“It would have to be a mix,” explained the 39-year-old. “Goalie has to be Pepe Reina, he could play with his feet. You have to put Carra [Jamie Carragher] in, for his mentality.
“I actually think a player like [Luis] Suarez, he has that mentality as well. It didn’t matter if it was a game or training, the day before a game at training if it was four vs two, he wanted to win. That’s why he got my deepest respect quite early.
“Stevie [Gerrard] has to be in there. And Big Sami [Hyypia]. He was a good player.”
Agger picks dream five-a-side team
This is a scarily good side on paper and begs the question why Agger’s trophy haul at Liverpool amounted to a single League Cup.
Although the Reds weren’t great during his stint at Anfield, plenty of talent still passed through Melwood over the years.
As well as the five that make the cut, Agger has also left out a clutch of other, notable former teammates.
Xabi Alonso is perhaps the one that most springs to mind. The Spaniard was as silky as they come and has often been named by Gerrard as one of the best he ever played with..

So too has Fernando Torres, who gets on the wrong end of the eternal ‘Suarez vs Torres’ debate this time.
Then there was Javier Mascherano, who’s ball-winning skills – which inspired a young Alexis Mac Allister – could come in handy on any five-a-side team.
Nevertheless, Agger’s five look good, too. Gerrard can handle the whole midfield on his own while Carragher and Hyypia marshal the defence.
It could be a little too reliant on Suarez for goals, but for one of the top strikers of his whole generation that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Great choices, Dan.
