‘Really dangerous’… Mikel Arteta now shares what he thinks Liverpool are really good at

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has explained why Liverpool will be ‘really dangerous’ to his team tomorrow.

The Reds meet the Gunners in a mouth-watering Premier League clash tomorrow. It’s first versus second at Anfield, with the winner set to sit top of the table at Christmas.

Pre-match predictions would appear to have Liverpool as slight favourites. Although Arsenal are top currently, they’ve got a terrible record at Anfield. Just last year they threw away an early two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against an out-of-form Liverpool.

Asked during his press conference today just what his team had learned from that topsy-turvy game in April, Arteta sounded a warning for the Gunners.

“There are certain things that we didn’t manage very well,” replied the Spanish coach via Football London. “The way we allowed them to run especially, that we need to correct and be much better at because when they have that momentum and space they are a really dangerous team.

“But we had some the big, big situations in after those moments when we could have killed the game and we didn’t – when you have the opportunity to do that, you have to do it.”

Arteta wary of ‘dangerous’ Liverpool

Arteta’s point here is perhaps the absolute key to tomorrow’s game.

Liverpool are indeed brilliant once given space to run into. With the pace of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and in particular Darwin Nunez, the Reds can really hurt you on the break.

With Arsenal likely to want to push forward and play the game on their terms, this could leave plenty of room for Liverpool to counter.

The key will be how Arsenal use the ball if they’re then able to win it back.

Liverpool can’t be perfect on the counter every time. There are moments when the Reds fly forwards, only for the final pass to be loose, gifting possession back to their opponents.

It’s in those moments where Liverpool are most vulnerable. With players out of position and unable to counter-press, if Arsenal work it right, that’s where they can get in.

Of course, this is easier said than done, and it will also require Arteta and his team to be brave in order to let those situations develop. But there is certainly something there.

From a Liverpool point of view, they’ll just have to make sure that they prevent anything like that from arising. The Reds know they’ll create chances at Anfield, they’ve got to be clinical and take them. Either way, it’s set to be a great game tomorrow. Hopefully Liverpool will turn up at their most dangerous.
