RB Leipzig director Rouven Schroder has now detailed what is going to happen with Fabio Carvalho amid reports that Liverpool will recall the youngster.

The 21-year-old winger joined the Bundesliga side in the summer on a season-long loan deal, with many expecting Carvalho to become a regular for Leipzig this campaign.

However, the Portuguese youth international has hardly featured for the east German side, and reports now suggest that Liverpool are now looking to recall Carvalho in January.

Despite this, Leipzig director Schroder told Fussball Transfers has now suggested that Carvalho will now get minutes, with the Bundesliga official saying: “We want the boy to scratch and bite. He will get his playing time.”

With just 360 minutes played all season, it feels unlikely that Leipzig will suddenly change their opinion on the amount of playing time Carvalho gets in the starting XI.

And for Liverpool, they should not be swayed by Schroder’s comments that things will magically change for Carvalho at Leipzig heading into 2024.

Carvalho to Leipzig, on paper, seemed like an ideal move for the youngster, with the Bundesliga one of the best divisions in Europe for a promising player to hone in on their craft and to develop at a good pace.

Yet the winger’s spell in Germany hasn’t gone to plan, and whilst Leipzig are doing all they can to keep Carvalho at the club, Liverpool have to be assertive.

The 21-year-old clearly won’t be playing as much as he currently is now next year, and Liverpool should be looking to bring Carvalho back to Anfield where another loan spell can be organised.

Indeed, Carvalho’s potential is scary and something that Liverpool have to tap into, and another loan move will do just that if Leipzig are willing to let go of the youngster.
