TalkSPORT pundit says 24-year-old Liverpool player is so much better than £52m Manchester United star

Andy Townsend has said he much rather have a striker like Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez in his squad than Manchester United’s £52m attacker Anthony Martial.

The 24-year-old attacker has gone almost two months without scoring having last found the back of the net on November 1st against AFC Bournemouth in the League Cup.

Yet despite this barren spell, many pundits and teammates have come to Nunez’s side over his recent form, with TalkSport pundit Townsend now joining the growing support team.

The pundit said to TalksSport when asked about Nunez’s recent form: “I like him, I’m happy to go out there and say it. I know there will people saying ‘what about his numbers?’

“Numbers isn’t everything, but give me him over some of these lot that stand around and do nothing, like Anthony Martial. Darwin Nunez is permanently on the move 100mphs.

“Yes he misses a lot of chances, but when he runs, as a midfield player when you’ve got a striker who’s running hard and going flat out, he isn’t going half-hearted, he puts his head down and goes properly to give you have a chance.”

Darwin Nunez needs to find form soon for Liverpool

After an immense start to the season, Nunez’s goalscoring form has fallen off a cliff despite putting in good performances for Liverpool in recent weeks.

All that the Uruguay international is missing from his game is that one chance that Nunez can bury to add to his goal tally, which is still pretty decent at this stage of the season with seven in all competitions.

Indeed, Nunez has shown that when he is confident he is quite the striker with a potency that is hard to match with any other attacker in the Premier League.

And for Liverpool, it’s now all about trying to get the forward to hit that level of confidence again, which could come as early as tonight in the League Cup against West Ham.
