Liverpool are reportedly not interested in signing Piero Hincapie despite recent rumours that the Reds are eyeing the Bayer Leverkusen defender.
The 21-year-old is expected to leave the Bundesliga club in 2024 having fallen out of favour with Xabi Alonso in what has been a record-breaking and historic season for Leverkusen.
And Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Hincapie, with the Ecuadorian centre-back recently being rumoured with a move to Anfield next month.
However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Hincapie isn’t a target for Liverpool, with the Anfield side expected to target another defender in the January window.
With the Reds in need of a replacement for the injured Joel Matip, Hincapie would have been a great successor for the 32-year-old Cameroonian in the winter market.
Yet as we now know, it looks likely that Hincapie won’t be the player Liverpool will be chasing, with the Reds likely to be looking at other options who could be available at a cheaper price.
Liverpool might regret not moving for Piero Hincapie in January

Lauded by Football Talent Scout as an ‘aggressive’ defender, Hincapie’s age and versatility would make the Bundesliga star an ideal January recruit for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
And with the Reds now out of contention for Hincapie, Liverpool could soon regret not pursuing Hincapie next month if the defender does leave Leverkusen for a Premier League rival.
Indeed, Hincapie has shown with Leverkusen and Ecuador that he is an exciting talent who could thrive at a top club if given the chance.
And Liverpool passing up on the option might come back to bite them in the months to come, especially if Hincapie makes the move to England for a rival side.
