Liverpool don’t think reported transfer target Maximilian Beier is ready to join them just yet.
The Reds have been linked with a move for Beier recently, with reports from this week confirming their interest in signing him.
But according to German journalist Christian Falk, Liverpool are now having some reservations about the Hoffenheim forward’s suitability.
“I heard that Liverpool are still monitoring Maximilian Beier,” Falk reports for The Daily Briefing. “He’s got a release clause of €32.5m [£28m].
“I heard Liverpool are watching him but they’re not sure whether he would help them immediately. So, I think Brighton’s interest is comparatively more concrete, and there’s interest from Brentford and Nottingham Forest on top of that.”
Liverpool not sure about Beier
As we move towards January, reports about Liverpool’s supposed interest in Beier has intensified.
However, the 21-year-old wouldn’t seem like a natural kind of target for the Reds.
As a young player doing well in the Bundesliga, he is of course someone to keep an eye on. With Hoffenheim having a decent season and sitting in 6th place, Beier has scored six goals already.
That’s still a long way behind current division top scorer Harry Kane, but it’s not a bad return for a young player after 13 games.
Nevertheless, Beier appears to be an out-and-out striker. Pacy and capable of playing from the left, he isn’t really what Liverpool need at the moment.

So, the Germany U21 international feels more like a player the Reds might keep an eye on with a future move in mind.
If he does end up in the Premier League in the near future, you can imagine they’ll be keeping an even closer watch over him.
Should that happen though, Liverpool will perhaps have to pay more than his current price-tag if he comes to England and does well.
As a result, the Reds should think about this one carefully. If they don’t think Beier is a real option, then that’s fine. But if they choose not go in for him now, they better be prepared to pay more somewhere down the line.
