Jurgen Klopp has claimed that Harvey Elliott was once Liverpool’s best player before getting injured in 2021.

The 20-year-old prospect has been a staple for the Reds for the past three seasons, with Elliott breaking into the senior squad in the 2021/22 season in Liverpool’s midfield.

Casting your mind back to the start of that campaign, there’s no denying that the-then teenage Elliott was something special, with the midfielder running the show for the Reds.

However, an injury against Leeds United ruled Elliott out for some months, with the youngster since fighting his way back to reach that level in Liverpool’s first-team side.

And Klopp has now admitted via the press that Elliott was Liverpool’s best player before that injury, with the manager saying: “Before his injury in 2021, he was our best player at that time.

“What he has shown when he has come in and for U21s with England, that is all what Harvey can be. With his skills, he will be super influential. He has the ability to connect, the technique.”

Peaking as an 18-year-old is something only few players can ever manage, and thankfully for Elliott, the midfielder hasn’t gone down this short and sweet career path.

This season has seen the youngster taken on a new role as a super-sub for the Reds, and Elliott’s influence in Liverpool’s squad is growing with seemingly every game.

Indeed, whilst Elliott was something of a revelation for Liverpool during his breakthrough season, the midfielder is now back to his best after suffering with injury.
