Liverpool are set to accelerate contract talks with centre-back Ibrahima Konate.
Konate has been a superb signing ever since his arrival from RB Leipzig back in 2021. And although his deal still has two-and-a-half years to run, the Reds are keen to tie him down to more.
That’s according to French outlet Le10Sport anyway. They claim to have exclusive news that Liverpool directors have now begun conversations with Konate’s representatives over a contract extension.
There is claimed to be no ’emergency’ over the discussions. However, the Reds are said to want the 24-year-old’s case ‘dealt with’ over the coming weeks. From there, Liverpool are reportedly hoping to reach an agreement with their No.5 by the end of the current season.
Konate’s extension is claimed to be both a ‘reward’ for his form since joining the club and a ‘repellent’ to other clubs who may be interested in the centre-back.
Indeed, Le10Sport suggest that PSG are one such team who have taken an interest in Konate. With a new deal in the pipeline though, Liverpool reportedly hope that they can secure the Frenchman’s future.
Liverpool begin Konate talks
This is of course brilliant news for Liverpool. With over two years left on his contract, there may be no real rush for the Reds to get things over the line here.
But as ever with these kinds of things, it’s better to sort it all out in good time.
With the likes of PSG being rumoured to like Ibou – and with the player himself publicly addressing these claims – things can quickly get out of hand.
The closer a player gets to his end date, the more and more frantic conversations can become. An exit then starts to feel inevitable.

From Liverpool’s point of view, they tend to be pretty good and making sure they’re not caught short with contracts. It’s true that a number of big players have left Anfield on a free transfer, but it has always been on Liverpool’s terms.
By and large, they get a player through the door on a five-year deal, offer him a new one after two to three years, and then ride that out.
That template now looks set to continue with Konate, who should be in line for a significant raise. Having joined the club with plenty to prove, the France international has now become a key man in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
His latest start – away at Sheffield United last week – was deemed to be ‘fantastic’ by Klopp. With all the changes in Liverpool’s centre-back department to come, Konate should be a big part of things for a while yet. Still young, Ibou has the chance to stay at Anfield for many more years. Get it signed, big man!
