Ronald Araujo is reportedly very unlikely to join Bayern Munich in January after the FC Barcelona defender was linked with a move with Liverpool.

The 24-year-old Uruguay international has been rumoured with a move away from the reigning La Liga giants in recent weeks, with Liverpool one of the sides linked with signing Araujo heading into 2024.

However, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, a winter move is unlikely for the Barcelona defender after a recent phone call with Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel.

The Bundesliga giants are also in the race for Araujo and are keen on signing the centre-back, though it now looks likely that the Liverpool-linked defender will remain with Barcelona.

Indeed, Araujo could have been an outstanding signing for any top European side in January, particularly Liverpool given their need for a top central defender in the winter market.

Yet Araujo seemingly rejecting Bayern could put a nail in the coffin over any potential move in January, with a personal phone call from Tuchel not even doing enough to convince the centre-back.

Araujo is arguably one of the best defenders in world football after establishing himself as a key player for Barcelona under Xavi Hernandez.

Yet with an exit from Catalonia now potentially on the cards, clubs from across the land will be queueing up to lure Araujo away from Barcelona if the centre-back is listed for sale.

And Liverpool simply can’t let Bayern win the race for Araujo, with the Reds in desperate need of a player to build their defence around in the years to come.

Whilst the South American isn’t on the move just yet, the summer could evolve into a huge battle for Araujo’s signature, one that Liverpool should be hoping to win.
