Liverpool will reportedly rival the likes of Manchester United for Joao Palhinha, with the Fulham midfielder potentially on the move in January.

The Portuguese international is regarded as one of the best in his positon in the Premier League having revolutionising the Cottagers last season upon their return to the top-flight.

Lauded by Danny Murphy as ‘absolutely phenomenal’, the 28-year-old was subject to a lot of interest this summer, including from Liverpool as Fulham demanded £90m for Palhinha according to some reports.

And TeamTalk now claim that the Reds are back in for the former Sporting Lisbon star, with Liverpool keen to add to their midfield in the January transfer window as United also eye the Fulham man.

Indeed, whilst £90m would be a ridiculous fee for a player like Palhinha, the Portuguese midfielder would offer a lot of what Liverpool are missing in their current ranks.

And if Palhinha himself was to push for a move away from Fulham, Liverpool could find themselves in a position where the midfielder could be available for a more reasonable price.

Liverpool should strongly consider Joao Palhinha swoop in January

Liverpool clearly needed a defence-minded midfielder in January, with Palhinha arguably the best that is out there in the current Premier League market.

And if the Reds can coax Fulham into lowering their demands for Palhinha, Liverpool need to jump at the chance to sign the Portuguese international.

At 28, Palhinha is in the prime of his career and ready to make that next step where he can feature and now star for a top Premier League side.

And Liverpool would be just that for Palhinha, with Jurgen Klopp’s side having a space already in their squad for a defensive midfielder like the Fulham star.
