Ryan Gravenberch has opened up on the differences between playing for Liverpool and former club Bayern Munich.
Gravenberch has been a hit for Liverpool so far, making a mockery of his lack of playing time in Munich last season.
Having also previously played for Ajax, the 21-year-old has already been at three of the most historic clubs in Europe. And speaking to TNT Sports about the experience of playing for that trio, Gravenberch claimed that the ‘intensity’ of Liverpool is what makes it stand out.
“I didn’t play a lot last season, and I think if you compare that to now being in the Premier League, it’s a lot different to where I came from,” the Dutchman admitted.
“Everywhere you go it’s a little bit different. Here the intensity of the midfield is a lot different than at Ajax. At Bayern there was also a lot of intensity but here it’s a little bit more, also because of the Premier League.”
Gravenberch still getting up to speed
Although Gravenberch has done really well for Liverpool so far, you can see exactly what he’s talking about here.
The Netherlands international has at times struggled to keep up with the pace of games.
Take last weekend’s win over Fulham for example. Gravenberch’s fine form in the lead up to the match saw him make just his fourth Premier League start.
But with Fulham giving as good as they got at Anfield, the Reds’ No.38 soon began to visibly tire. By the time he was taken off on 83 minutes, he looked absolutely shattered
As he points out here though, that’s understandable for Gravenberch. Not only is the speed and intensity of English football slightly higher, but he barely played at Bayern last season.

Following a season pretty much on the side-lines, Gravenberch was always going to need a period to get his match fitness back to a good level.
As the Fulham game showed, he perhaps still has a little way to go in that respect. But with Jurgen Klopp mixing up starts and substitute appearances for Ryan, he’ll get there.
Having come off the bench late on against Sheffield United mid-week, we expect to see Gravenberch from the start at Crystal Palace tomorrow.
There, he’ll get another chance to demonstrate how he’s leaving the teachings of Bayern behind and embracing the Liverpool way.
