‘Doesn’t look good’… Jurgen Klopp says £35m Liverpool player could miss Crystal Palace game

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he could now be missing one more player for Liverpool’s clash with Crystal Palace tomorrow.

Already without Diogo Jota, Andy Robertson, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara, Klopp did actually have some good news on Alisson Becker when speaking to the press this morning. The Brazilian was back in full training yesterday.

“Alisson looks good,” said the Liverpool manager. “I don’t know if good enough for tomorrow, I have to check that with coaches, the medical department and Ali, of course.”

However, that very good news was tempered with a decidedly less good update, with Klopp almost certainly ruling out Alexis Mac Allister.

“Macca doesn’t look good, we will have to see day by day,” rued the coach. “They [the medical department] were pretty hopeful after the game that it was not that serious. It is not that serious but in this period of the year, fives days is 12 games pretty much.

“So, we have to wait and see how he shows up today. I don’t expect him to be ready for tomorrow. I don’t know about Thursday and Sunday after that.”

Mac Allister set to miss Palace clash

Although it had been touch-and-go whether Mac Allister would be ready for tomorrow, this is a disappointing update.

Not necessarily in that the 24-year-old won’t play. Having picked up a nasty gash on his knee against Sheffield United – and with games coming thick and fast – Mac Allister would probably have been expected to start from the bench on Saturday anyway.

So, in that sense, the timing of this injury isn’t all that bad. Rather, the worse news is that Klopp doesn’t know quite when the £35m man will be back.

Mac Allister has quickly become a key figure in Liverpool’s midfield and they could really do with him for the double-header against Manchester United and Arsenal.

As a result of Jurgen’s answer, there will now be some doubt as to whether he’ll be available.

From what we can tell, the injury is nothing worse than some stitches that need time to heal. Unless there’s something not being said, Mac Allister doesn’t have a muscle injury or even an impact issue. It’s just a case of a wound healing up.

Consequently, we’d still sound an optimistic tone for this one. With Liverpool through in the Europa League there’s no need for Macca to be involved mid-week.

So, with over a week still to be ready for United at Anfield, we think he’ll be fine. Let’s hope so anyway.
