‘It hasn’t happened’… Pundit suggests Arsenal could have signed 25-year-old Liverpool player last summer

Kenny Cunningham has suggested that Arsenal could have signed Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher last summer.

The Republic of Ireland international was strongly rumoured with a move away from Anfield during the transfer window with Kelleher looking to become a no. 1 elsewhere in the Premier League.

However, the 25-year-old goalkeeper remained with Liverpool, where in recent weeks Kelleher has been entrusted to start between the sticks with Alisson out injured.

However, according to Cunningham via Premier Sports, the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham all could have moved for Kelleher given that the Premier League trio all spent on goalkeepers in the summer.

Cunningham said: “This is only a shop window if he has made the conscious decision that he wants to move, that has got to be the next step. I’m not sure that is exactly Caoimhin’s mindset at this moment in time.

“I thought last summer was a great opportunity for him to bounce. There was some big clubs in the Premier League looking to strengthen in that area of the pitch, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Spurs all went and spent on goalkeepers.”

Caoimhin Kelleher just isn’t good enough to play for a direct Liverpool rival

There’s no denying that Kelleher is a talented goalkeeper who could one day play for one of the biggest clubs in the world as the main man between the sticks.

However, in this current moment in time, Kelleher simply isn’t good enough to play for an Arsenal or Tottenham on a weekly basis.

After all, Kelleher is yet to replace Alisson at Liverpool and likely never will given how good the Brazilian international is.

As a result, the Irish international should be looking lower down the Premier League if he is to find a new club where Kelleher would be an actual starter.
