Liverpool will not sell Caoimhin Kelleher this summer.

That’s according to the Liverpool Echo, who have reported that the goalkeeper was left out of the Reds’ draw with Greuther Furth due to their rotation policy.

Kelleher was handed the number one spot as Liverpool opened their pre-season schedule with a win over Karlsruher SC last week.

However, it was Adrian that started in between the sticks on Monday afternoon and Kelleher’s absence promoted concerns over the 24-year-old’s future at Anfield.

The Republic of Ireland international is highly regarded at Liverpool, however the Daily Mail have recently claimed that Wolves are considering a move as they look to replace the potential exit of Jose Sa.

Talk of Kelleher’s exit has now been squashed, with the Liverpool Echo stating that Monday’s clash was used to get some minutes in the legs of Adrian and Marcelo Pitaluga, with Kelleher set to stay at the club.

Kelleher has been considered as one of the Premier League’s best back-up ‘keepers, being labelled a hero when he became Liverpool’s first goalkeeper in their history to win four penalty shootouts as they claimed a victory over Derby County in the third round of last season’s Carabao Cup.

Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for the shot-stopper after their win, admitting that he was ‘absolutely exceptional’.

Could Caoimhin Kelleher become the Liverpool No.1?

Caoimhin Kelleher has proven himself as one of the Premier League’s most promising goalkeepers, however his appearances in the top flight have been limited due to Alisson’s form.

The Brazilian is easily one of the best in the whole world and it would take a lot for his teammate to replace him, however he could certainly take his spot if he was still at Anfield by the time Alisson leaves.

However, the 30-year-old still has four years remaining on his contract and it seems extremely unlikely that Kelleher would stick around for his deal to expire.

The Reds may eventually have to move Kelleher on if he is to fulfil his potential as he is definitely too good to be a back-up for most of his career, though that will depend on whether Alisson can keep up his excellent form for the remainder of his contract.
