Dean Saunders was critical of how Alisson Becker played for Liverpool yesterday in their 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

The Reds rescued a point at the Etihad Stadium as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late finish ensured that Liverpool came away from the blue half of Manchester with something against City.

Yet speaking on TalkSPORT (26/11 6:30am), Saunders was not a huge fan of how Alisson played on the day against the reigning English champions, with the pundit confused about the tactic.

Indeed, the Brazilian international has been in the Premier League in recent years from playing it out of the back, yet Saunders thought the style did not match the occasion on Saturday.

The pundit said: “You should have seen Alisson [Becker] yesterday. He looked like he’d been on a ten-day cruise not on international duty.

“Honestly, he’s a world-class goalkeeper but he made four assists for goals for Man City playing out from the back. But whose fault is it? Is it the manager or is it the goalkeeper?”

It would be an understatement to say that Alisson struggled badly for Liverpool against City, with Jurgen Klopp even saying at full-time that the 31-year-old had picked up an injury.

It’s rare for the shot-stopper to have an off day for the Reds, with Alisson considered by many as one of the best keepers in the world, with Gary Neville even saying he is currently outright.

Yet even the best have their bad days, and Alisson certainly had that at the Etihad, with Liverpool arguably thankful they only conceded one on the day against City.

Attentions will now be drawn onto how serious Alisson’s injury is, with Liverpool fans hopeful that the Brazilian is not out for long heading into a massive period in the footballing calendar.
