Gary Neville spotted Jurgen Klopp fuming at something during Liverpool vs Manchester City

Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville spotted Jurgen Klopp ‘going mad’ at his Liverpool team today.

The Reds gave a decent account of themselves at the Etihad Stadium today, but heading into the second-half, they were still trailing 1-0.

With City beginning the second period in slightly lethargic fashion though, the door was open for Liverpool to do some damage. However, the Reds themselves were a little off the pace.

And watching proceedings for Sky Sports, Neville claimed that Klopp was not happy with his players’ intensity.

“Klopp’s going mad below us,” said the pundit. “He wants runners forwards, he wants more urgency.”

Klopp bemoans lacklustre Liverpool

This game above all in the Premier League is well known for its intensity and high-octane thrills. But today’s affair never really reached those levels.

To be honest, that’s no surprise. Much had been made about the timing of the game prior to kick-off and it certainly didn’t help things on Saturday.

For Liverpool in particular, the match coming as an early kick-off on the back of an international break always looked tricky.

The same is obviously true for City. But with Pep Guardiola’s side boasting such an impressive home record, it was a bigger ask for Liverpool.

At times during the first-half especially, it looked like that for Liverpool. The likes of Darwin Nunez and Alisson Becker have done a lot of travelling over the past couple of days and it did show here.

Klopp was reportedly seen bemoaning the absence of his international stars during training earlier this week. Although the manager will have seen things he liked this afternoon, it’s now clear why the boss was spotted shaking his head.

As the half wore on, the two teams almost looked like they were ready to shake on the result at 1-0. Thankfully, Trent Alexander-Arnold had other ideas.

That’s not what we’ve become used to seeing in this fixture and given the context of it, it’s such a shame for Liverpool. Nevertheless, it is understandable that we saw the performance we did. Klopp will know the reasons for it but the Reds will have to be better next time out.
