Jurgen Klopp has been gearing Liverpool up for their trip to face Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime.

The Reds head to the Etihad Stadium in search of a first win in eight years on the ground. With Pep Guardiola’s team a point ahead of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table, it promises to be a belter.

Nevertheless, the build-up has been a little obscured by the recent international break. And according to The Independent’s ‘Reading The Game’ newsletter, Klopp has been feeling the effects of this.

They claim that the Liverpool manager has been spotted shaking his head at the lack of his absent players this week.

Having reportedly been trying to do things in training, Klopp is said to have been unable to carry sessions out effectively as the players to do so simply haven’t been there.

Nevertheless, Jurgen is claimed to be ‘content’ with the way things are going at Liverpool. Although he’s reportedly of the feeling that tomorrow’s big game isn’t being given the treatment it deserves, the German is said to feel he’s now built the core of a team who can challenge once again.

Klopp’s international frustration

It’s hard enough planning for any game with an international break getting in the way of things. But when you’re plotting a trip to face perhaps the best team on the planet, it must be a hundred times more frustrating.

That’s what Klopp and his coaches have had to deal with as they get ready for a ginormous game tomorrow.

It’s a good job that this game comes after the third pause of the season and not the first. That has at least given Liverpool’s new players the time to gel together and become used to what’s expected of them.

But this is still a very new side, too. Having been unable to work for too long together ahead of Saturday, there should be some concern that tactical ideas for this very specific 90 minutes are not fully formed.

However, it must also be said that Liverpool players generally had a very positive time away with their country’s.

They may not have been able to work on the training pitch together, buy many of them will have returned in incredibly positive spirits.

Sometimes confidence on the football pitch can be just as important as tactical ideas. Liverpool players certainly have that right now. A win at City and that will only improve further.

So, it may have been a difficult week for Jurgen on the training pitch, but it still has the potential to end in glory for the Reds.
