Liverpool to rival Manchester United for 17-year-old talent in January

Liverpool are reportedly interested in 17-year-old Republic of Ireland talent Sam Curtis, with Manchester United also chasing the defender.

With the January window fast approaching, the Reds are expected to spend in the winter market, with the likes of Andre Trindade and Khephren Thuram recently being linked with Liverpool.

And now, 90min claim that Jurgen Klopp’s side are in for St. Patrick’s Athletic wonderkid Curtis, with a whole host of British clubs also interested in the teenage right-back.

As per the report, the likes of United, Manchester City, Tottenham and Celtic are all keeping track of Curtis, who has been a regular for the League of Ireland outfit since the age of 15.

With Liverpool dipping into the Irish market last year to sign Trent Kone-Doherty, Curtis could be the latest youngster to make the move to Anfield.

Indeed, competition is strong for Curtis heading into January, yet with the defender exactly what Liverpool are looking for in a signing for the future, the battle could be worth it in the end for the teenager.

17-years-old and already a regular in a top-flight division, Curtis is in for one heck of a future if the defender can continue his development in the Premier League.

And Liverpool could be a dream destination for the right-back, with the Reds having an outstanding track record in developing young talents into top-flight standard players.

With the likes of Ben Doak and Calum Scanlon featuring for the senior team this season, Curtis could be the next wonderkid to make a name for himself under Klopp.

And given Liverpool’s strong roots to Ireland, the defender himself could be sold on a move to Merseyside, where Anfield could become Curtis’ new home.
