Liverpool reportedly made serious enquiries to sign 17-year-old Argentine winger Gianluca Prestianni, though Benfica have won the race for the youngster.

The Reds have been on quite a mission in recent months in trying to bring the brightest and best from across the world to Anfield, with Assan Ouedraogo another teenager Liverpool are interested in.

And according to O Jogo, Prestianni was another prospect the Merseyside giants made moves to recruit, with FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid also chasing the Velez Sarsfield wonderkid.

However, Benfica are the club who have won the race for Prestianni’s signature, with the Portuguese giants putting in work since the summer to bring the attacker to Lisbon.

Given Benfica’s recent track record in signing players from South America and transforming them into superstars, Prestianni has arguably made the right call in moving to the European powerhouse.

Indeed, Liverpool could have been a neat move for Prestianni, especially with the strong South American influence in the club, yet most fans would agree that the winger has done the right thing in choosing Benfica.

With Benfica’s reputation as good as it is to South American players, it’s no real surprise that Prestianni chose the Portuguese side as his destination for 2024.

Yet for Liverpool, the winger could re-emerge on their radar next year if Prestianni breaks into Benfica’s senior team and starts performing for As Aguias.

Given the speed at which some top clubs now want to sign the biggest and best from Portugal, a Premier League move this summer could be on the cards for Prestianni if he hits the ground running.

And for Liverpool, Prestianni could be quite the signing if the winger develops into a top prospect in 2024, with the forward seemingly destined for greatness.
