FC Barcelona could reportedly move to sign Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara in January as short-term cover for the injured Gavi.
The 32-year-old Spanish international has been linked with a return back to Catalonia in recent months ahead of Thiago’s expected departure from Anfield in 2024 when his contract expires.
And now, according to Sport, Barcelona could move for their former midfield superstar in January as a replacement for Gavi, who has been ruled out for the entire season after tearing his ACL with Spain.

Signed for £25m in 2020, Thiago has spent the majority of his Liverpool career spent on the treatment table, with the midfielder yet to even feature for the Reds this season due to his latest fitness issue.
With Thiago’s contract due to expire at the end of this campaign, a January sale could be a beneficial move for Liverpool if Barcelona are willing to put up a transfer fee for the 32-year-old star.
Indeed, Liverpool are reportedly expecting the midfielder to leave in 2024 even if Thiago returns from injury, and a sale in January could be the best decision on the table for all parties.
Liverpool should sell Thiago Alcantara to Barcelona in January

Thiago’s Liverpool career hasn’t gone exactly to plan despite some unreal moments of magic from the technically genius midfielder.
Yet there’s no denying that Thiago’s time at Anfield is now slowly coming to an end, and a return to Barcelona in January could be the best move possible for everyone involved.
The Catalan giants could have enough in the bank to tempt Liverpool into selling Thiago six months before his contract expires at the end of this season.
Moreover, the midfielder seems keen on heading back home to where it all began for him, with Thiago a player who could be perfect for Xavi Hernandez’s system.
