21-year-old Liverpool player admits he used to love playing for Everton when he was younger

Tyler Morton has admitted that he loved playing for Everton when he was younger before the midfielder ended up at Liverpool.

The 21-year-old is regarded by many as one of Liverpool’s most exciting youngsters, with Jurgen Klopp himself a massive fan of Morton and what he could become in the years to come.

Yet in a recent interview with the Liverpool Echo, the on-loan Hull City star revealed that he loved his time in Everton’s academy when he was just a kid, leaving to join Liverpool at seven-years-old.

Morton said: “I played for Everton when I was younger, when I was a kid. I really enjoyed my time to be honest, even though I’m a Red.

“So yeah, I played for Everton when I was younger. I think I was four or five until about seven. It was very young but I still weirdly remember it.

“It kind of got to that decision when you’re seven years of age and you pick a team. I picked Liverpool. Yeah (my family are), all Reds. I don’t think I had a choice to be honest!”

Everton’s academy is, in it’s own right, one of the best in the country, yet Morton made the right choice in joining Liverpool over staying with the Toffees.

The midfielder is now at one of the biggest clubs in the world and is on a development plan that could one day see Morton become a regular first-teamer with the Anfield side.

A successful loan spell at Hull this season could lead to minutes next year under Klopp, and for Morton, the decision to choose Liverpool over Everton as a youngster is proving to be a good one.

Indeed, there’s every chance that Morton could have got lost in the system at Everton’s Finch Farm, and the England youth international made the right call in swapping the blue half of Merseyside for the red one.
