Darwin Nunez has been on a one-man mission to prove his worth this season, and Lionel Messi might have just given the Liverpool striker an almighty boost.

Speaking to TyC Sports after Argentina’s 2-0 loss to Uruguay, the footballing legend lauded the Anfield no. 9 as ‘excellent’ as Nunez secured the result with a late finish past Emi Martinez.

With question marks hanging over the 24-year-old heading into this season, Messi’s praise for Nunez has all-but proven that Jurgen Klopp was right to trust the striker from the very start this campaign.

Inheriting Roberto Firmino’s shirt and leading the Liverpool attack is some pressure to put on yourself heading into a new season with the Merseyside giants.

Yet Nunez did just that this summer, and the results since then have been outstanding, with the striker finally looking the part under Klopp and already notching up an impressive seven goals and six assists.

With Messi now showering the forward with praise, the decision to keep the faith in Nuenz has proved to be the correct move from Liverpool, with the best still yet to come from the Uruguay star.

Liverpool fans might not be prepared for what’s to come

With Klopp reportedly expecting Nunez to flourish this season, it’s crazy to think that Liverpool fans are yet to even see the best of what’s to come from the striker.

The forward feels like he hasn’t even hit second-gear this season, with Nunez still prone to the occasional miss and the poorly-timed run when a goal is needed for Liverpool.

Yet the evidence is clear, the decision to give Nunez the role of centre-forward in this Liverpool team has been exceptional, and Messi’s praise could only just be the beginning for the 24-year-old this season.
