Jurgen Klopp is reportedly expecting Darwin Nunez to shine for Liverpool next season after a mixed first year in the Premier League at Anfield.

According to the Athletic, the German manager has high expectations for the 24-year-old attacker, who bagged 15 goals in his debut season on Merseyside after Nunez’s blockbuster move from Benfica to Liverpool, which could cost as much as £85m.

With Roberto Firmino leaving Liverpool, there’s an expectation that Nunez will receive more minutes as Klopp looks to spread the amount of playing time between his five star attackers. And the Uruguay international could make a real name for himself in the new campaign.

UEFA Europa League football could see Nunez become a regular for Liverpool as part of Klopp’s new task of juggling squad fitness whilst also competing for the Premier League title, a challenge that the former Benfica star could relish in.

Moreover, with Nunez now more accustomed to the Premier League and playing for Liverpool, there’s a big expectation from supporters to better his goalscoring record from last season, a feat that the 24-year-old could easily match if he gives it his all in the new season.

Nunez arrived at Liverpool this summer with one of the biggest reputations in Europe, and whilst 15 goals isn’t a bad tally for a first-time forward in the Premier League, many supporters and critics expected more. And Klopp is within his right to demand more from the attacker next season.

Indeed, Nunez grew in confidence with each match played in England and for Liverpool. And with the Reds stepping into a whole new world next year with the Europa League, the South American talisman could become the Anfield side’s leading man up front if everything begins to click for the former Benfica star.
