Jarell Quansah names the Liverpool player he really struggles to deal with during training

Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah has opened up on what it’s like to train with the Reds first-team stars.

Quansah has unexpectedly made a big impact for Liverpool this season. From being out on-loan with Bristol Rovers last season, the 20-year-old has announced himself as a big talent.

This emergence has seen him called up for the England U21 side, who he’s once again training with this week. During his time with the national team, Quansah has spoken reporters about what it’s like to train with the Liverpool first-team.

In quotes from the Liverpool ECHO, the youngster picked out Luis Diaz in particular as being a tricky customer to contain.

“It’s so tough. Every day it’s so hard,” Quansah explained. “You’ve got Diaz who is one the liveliest wingers I’ve ever played against. Nunez, all his physical attributes. Good finisher. And then obviously Mo [Salah]. We’ve all seen what he’s been doing for the past few years. So experienced and so savvy.

“So just putting yourself against them is always going to make you better. Obviously, I’m not saying that all the time I’m defending them well, but just learning things and the more I experience and the more I defend against them in training, the better I’m going to get.”

Quansah learning from Liverpool stars

This is a super attitude from young Jarell. He’s acknowledging that although it’s tough to play against players of such quality, he’ll learn so much from it.

It can often be overlooked just how important day-to-day training can be for young players like Quansah.

For example, even though he doesn’t play as much as he’d like, Caoimhin Kelleher has previously spoken about how thankful he is to train with Alisson Becker every day.

In Quansah’s case, you can double that. Not only is he learning from Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and the rest, but he’s also being put through his paces by some of the best forwards around.

No wonder when he’s stepped into the breach he’s looked so comfortable. Quansah is facing far worse at the AXA Training Centre every day.

Over time, Jarell will learn to deal with players like Diaz better. But for now, he must still be pinching himself a little bit.
