Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has given his reaction to the news that Everton are being deducted 10 points.
Friday brought huge news for all English football fans. After being investigated for breaching Financial Fair Play rules, Everton have been hit with a 10-point penalty.
The sanction will see the Toffees drop to second-bottom in the Premier League table and into the relegation zone.
On a huge day for Liverpool’s neighbours, former Red Collymore took to X to give his immediate reaction, and claimed that the general feeling will be one of sympathy for Everton.
“The Premier League have taken on one of the Founding Fathers of English football, Everton,” wrote the pundit.
“Everton will have a lot of sympathy in the Premier League “dressing room” should other clubs not be treated as Everton have today.”
Collymore reacts to Everton sanction
Wow, we really did not see this coming today. Given how long adjacent investigations into the likes of Manchester City are taking, we didn’t expect a resolution to this any time soon.
From a Liverpool point of view, there are a couple of factors at play here.
While Collymore may be right, there will be sympathy from a large portion of fans, and perhaps of Liverpool fans in particular, plenty will also be jubilant.
On the one hand, the deduction heightens the chances of Liverpool’s city rivals being relegated. While some won’t want that to happen, others very blatantly will. The Reds themselves reportedly don’t see Everton as true rivals, but for supporters it’s very different.

On the other, it also suggests that City may not be long for being dealt with.
Any similar such punishment for Pep Guardiola’s side would result in Liverpool being handed a huge boost in the current title race. So, a lot of Reds fans will welcome today’s decision on a two-pronged basis.
There will of course be others who take Collymore’s lead and sympathise with the Blues.
For us, they broke the rules, they’ve been punished. There’s no need for other clubs to show them support or sympathy. The only thing needed is to make sure that similar rule-benders are dealt with accordingly. We’re waiting.
