FC Barcelona have reportedly made contact with Florian Wirtz’s camp over a potential deal, with Liverpool also interested in the youngster.

According to Sport, the Catalan giants have been in talks with the Germany international’s entourage, with Wirtz now dreaming of a move to Barcelona in 2024.

As per the report, Bayer Leverkusen value the attacking midfielder as highly as €100m (£89m), with Liverpool also in the race to sign Wirtz after a sensational season under Xabi Alonso.

The versatile forward has bagged six goals and registered nine assists in all competitions for the Bundesliga, with interest now hitting an all-time high in Wirtz.

And now, Barcelona have seemingly entered the race for the 20-year-old in a big way, with the reigning La Liga champions putting in the early framework over a potential deal.

Indeed, it’s no real surprise that Barcelona are interested in Wirtz, and with the youngster now dreaming about a move to Catalonia, Liverpool have to be on their guard.

As with any transfer battle with Barcelona these days, if your club actually has money to spend, there’s a good chance you can beat the European titans to a potential target.

And this could be what puts Liverpool in the lead for Wirtz, with the Reds looking to spend big in 2024 on a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Whilst Barcelona have the prestige and reputation to lure Wirtz, it means nothing if the Catalan side can’t meet Leverkusen’s asking price, something Liverpool could manage.
