Former footballer Adebayo Akinfenwa has claimed that Liverpool have a player who ranks ahead of Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.
Drogba is widely thought of as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever strikers. During two spells at Stamford Bridge, the Ivorian netted 104 league goals and won four titles.
But asked by Sky Sports to rank the Premier League’s best strikers of all time, Akinfenwa placed Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah higher than Drogba.
While the former Chelsea man sunk to ninth, Salah was slipped into seventh place. Between them was Reds legend Robbie Fowler, who claimed eighth place.
Arsenal icon Thierry Henry topped Akinfenwa’s list, with Harry Kane, Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, Andy Cole and Sergio Aguero respectively all placing ahead of Mo.
Salah creeps up all-time list
There was some argument in the Sky Sports studio over Akinfenwa’s choice to put Salah in his top ten.
But, interestingly, the only debate was over whether or not Liverpool’s No.11 should be classed as a ‘striker.’
If we’re nit-picking, then we probably wouldn’t class Mo as a striker. Yes, he gets the goals that a striker does, but it feels a stretch to label him that way.
Nevertheless, if he is included in the list, then we’d argue that he should in fact be higher.
In fairness, all six players picked above him are higher-placed in terms of Premier League goals. But Mo is the only one still playing in the division.

Currently 12th on the all-time list on 147 goals, the Egyptian is destined to break into the top 10 by the end of this season.
Henry’s 175 is in all likelihood out of his reach – this year at least – but there’s every chance that Salah could surpass Fowler’s 163, which sneak him into eighth. It looks possible that the 31-year-old will still be at Liverpool next season, it which case he’ll reach even higher.
As for Drogba, he was a top striker who would often come up trumps on the big stage. But in terms of overall Premier League contribution, he’s way off the pace. 104 goals in 254 appearances is good, but Salah has 43 more in 13 less games.
The two did actually play together when Drogba returned for his second stint at Chelsea in 2014. As an African legend in England, Mo will have learned loads from Didier. But now, there’s no debate over who wears the crown.
