Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Liverpool target Andre Trindade.

Andre looks set to be one of the big movers of the January transfer window. Having just won the Copa Libertadores with Fluminense, the 22-year-old’s stock is on the rise.

And according to 90min, that will see a crowded race for Andre’s services when the market reopens.

They claim that Fluminense are now expecting to sell their star midfielder amid ‘significant and rising interest’ from the Premier League.

Despite claims yesterday that Liverpool will not pursue a move for Andre, 90min report that the Reds do retain an interest. However, this is caveated by the assertion that having made contact with the Brazilian over the summer, Liverpool have not been in touch with him since.

Arsenal and Fulham are both said to be long-term admirers too and could both try and sign Andre in the New Year. Meanwhile, there’s reportedly new interest from Tottenham, Napoli and Lyon who are claimed to have been checking on Andre in recent weeks.

Andre race heats up

Unfortunately, we get the impression that Liverpool will not push too hard to get Andre through the door in January.

Despite an approach seemingly having taken place in the summer – and the player himself performing well since then, it looks like it’s over.

Some won’t mind that. Taking a player straight from South America to the Premier League is always a risk. There are perhaps surer bets out there to sort out Liverpool’s No.6 position.

But regardless of that, it would be a shame for the Reds to miss out on a player journalist Fabrizio Romano has called ‘special’ [Here We Go Podcast].

Andre has already admitted that he almost joined Liverpool over the summer. Having also expressed his admiration for Jurgen Klopp, he clearly likes our club.

Of course, a move to England will likely be seen as a dream by the Brazil international, regardless of the club. But it can hardly be argued that a move to Fulham – or even Spurs – is akin to joining Liverpool.

There’s still a little way to go until the window opens, though. Until he’s signed on the dotted line for someone else, there’s still a chance Andre ends up at Anfield.

With so much competition and the Reds’ interest cooling though, we can no longer see that happening. Let’s hope we don’t come to regret it.
