Jurgen Klopp has praised the potential of injured Liverpool youngster Stefan Bajcetic.
Having missed the final months of last season, Bajcetic is once again side-lined with what appears to something akin to growing pains.
It has been a frustrating time for the 18-year-old, but speaking in his pre-Luton Town press conference today, Klopp reassured fans that Bajcetic is still in his future plans.
“We don’t know,” said the Reds boss when asked for clarity on when Bajcetic will be fit again. “With Stefan it’s again one of these things. Let me say it like that: Stefan’s quality, potential, talent everybody could see and it’s incredible. What a player. But the body was not ready yet. That’s how it is, they’re still growing these boys.”
“We just have to put the brake in again and wait until it’s all fine and then Liverpool FC have a wonderful player, a wonderful player to use. But there’s absolutely no time [frame] to put on that and we will not. We just have to wait.
“He’s here, he’s training, he’s doing his stuff. We know how good he is and now we have to make sure that we help him to get the body to show that, not only once but then three times a week and we will get there.”
Bajcetic patience continues
Luckily, Liverpool have plenty of cover in midfield while they wait for Bajcetic to recover. But nevertheless, this is still disappointing.
Obviously it’s nobody’s fault and Klopp is absolutely right to wait. We’d rather Stefan held on as long as he needed than be rushed back too early.
But just like with Kaide Gordon last year, there’s a worry that Liverpool are being robbed of a special talent.
Gordon is still yet to feature again for the first-team since his last appearance almost two years ago. From looking like he could genuinely be an option for Klopp, the youngster has now fallen off the radar a little.

Hopefully the same thing doesn’t happen to Bajcetic, but the longer he’s out, the higher that chance becomes.
As Jurgen points out, the young Spaniard has the potential to be a real star for Liverpool. He didn’t look out of place in the senior XI when making his debut aged just 17 last year.
With the Reds struggling in midfield over the New Year, Bajcetic then stood in admirably until injury struck.
Reinforcements have since been brought in, although you still fancy that Bajcetic would have been given minutes over the course of the season so far. Let’s hope it isn’t too long before he’s out on the pitch again.
