Liverpool remain interested in a January move for Andre Trindade, with a decision becoming clearer.

Andre has been heavily linked with Liverpool since the summer transfer window. Having stayed at Fluminense and helped them to a first ever Copa Libertadores title this weekend, he looks set for a move to Europe in the New Year.

So far, Liverpool have appeared favourites to finally get a transfer sorted. And speaking to The Debrief podcast, journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the Reds are very much interested.

“He remains on Liverpool’s list,” the transfer expert confirmed. However, it sounds like other clubs are also right in the mix, too.

“But from what I’m hearing, it’s not only Liverpool. There are more clubs from Europe trying to understand the conditions of the deal and what Fluminense would be open to accepting in January.

“I think in the next few weeks, the situation could be more clear because discussions can then take place to understand the final price, the intention of the player. But Liverpool are still interested. Let’s see if they’ll spend money because I think it’ll be 35 to 40m euros [£30-35m]. But he remains appreciated by those at Liverpool.”

Andre closing in on transfer decision

You have to take your hat off to Andre. By the sounds of things he could quite easily have downed tools and demanded to leave his club in the summer.

But Fluminense are the team who have given him a career. The 22-year-old came through the youth ranks at the Rio de Janeiro side and clearly has a real bond with them.

With Flu going well in the Copa Libertadores, Andre stayed in the hope of leading them to a first ever title.

At the time the summer window shut, that still looked like a bit of a long-shot. But as it turned out, it proved to be an excellent call from Andre.

He will still get his European move – whether it’s to Liverpool or elsewhere. Now he’ll get it as a champions of South America, though.

Imagine the Brazil international had left his boyhood club only to see them win the biggest title in their history just a couple of months later.

No, we’re sure – and Andre will be sure – that he made the right choice back in the summer. Let’s hope that Liverpool follow through on their intention to sign him now. If they don’t, it sounds like somebody else certainly will.

Expect this to ramp up quickly over the coming weeks now.
