Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Exequiel Palacios, who Liverpool were strongly linked with this summer.

According to TNT Sports, the Magpies are one of several Premier League clubs keeping tabs on the Argentine international, who the Athletic reported this summer was on Liverpool’s radar.

With Palacios starring for Leverkusen this season, it’s no wonder why interest has now spiked in the 25-year-old, who was also part of Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning squad.

Lauded as ‘exceptional’ by Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes, the midfielder could be Premier League-bound following this latest update, with Newcastle in the chase.

Indeed, despite signing a new contract with Leverkusen just this season, the lure of England could be too much for the midfielder, much to Liverpool’s dismay.

Whilst the Reds are good for midfield options, there’s no denying that Palacios would be a great addition for Liverpool’s squad, with the Bundesliga star having a year to remember.

Palacios has been sensational for both club and country in the last 12 months, and for Liverpool, the Newcastle target could be an ideal signing this January.

And the Reds could be smart to try and bring the Argentine to Anfield, with midfield still a position that could do with some added quality heading into the second part of the season.

With Palacios already knowing the likes of Alexis Mac Allister at the club, Liverpool could already have an in when it comes to signing the midfielder, who could be open to a move to Anfield.
