Jurgen Klopp says £64m Liverpool player just did something ‘unbelievable’ vs Bournemouth

Jurgen Klopp has raved about Darwin Nunez’s winning goal for Liverpool tonight.

Nunez scored for a third consecutive game this evening, curling in a beautiful long-range effort to hand the Reds a 2-1 win over Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup.

It was the best moment of a pretty hectic game played in stormy conditions on the South Coast. And speaking in his post-match press conference via liverpoolfc.com, Klopp praised Liverpool’s No.9.

“It was a difficult game. Bournemouth did really well – they had their moments,” began the manager. “In life, in football, from time to time you need luck and tonight, for sure, in one or two moments Bournemouth could have finished the situations a little bit better but it’s an inch on the foot and not more.

“Then Darwin shows his class and put the game pretty much to bed for us. It’s an unbelievable goal. We had much bigger chances in the whole game – like five, six, seven – but that was the goal we needed. He did it.

“Everybody was really working extremely hard and that’s what you want.”

Klopp praises Darwin brilliance

When Nunez curled the ball beyond Ionut Radu in the 70th minute, it couldn’t have come at a better time for Liverpool.

Five minutes had barely passed since Justin Kluivert had nodded in an all-too-easy equaliser for the Cherries.

With the wind swirling and the home crowd starting to warm up, it was looking like things could soon turn ugly for Liverpool. But Darwin had other ideas.

Nothing really looked on when he mis-controlled a Trent Alexander-Arnold pass midway inside the Bournemouth half.

In fact, the £64m man’s slightly loose touch prompted jeers from the locals. But they weren’t laughing for long.

The defending could perhaps have been more proactive, though there was nothing anyone could do about the finish.

The wind may have helped Darwin a little, but it really didn’t look like it. He’s a man on form and full of confidence. It wasn’t a surprise to see the ball end up in the net.

Having so often flattered to deceive last season, this is now becoming a regular sight for Nunez. Three goals in three games and the Uruguayan is starting to really show what he’s all about. Long may that continue.
