20-year-old Liverpool player says something ‘crazy’ happened to him this season

Liverpool youngster Jarell Quansah has been looking back on his debut with the Reds this season.

Quansah has shot into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans having been impressive during the summer friendlies.

After leaving an impression on Klopp with those pre-season displays, the 20-year-old made his senior debut when coming off the bench against Newcastle United earlier this season.

It was a game to remember as Darwin Nunez hit two late goals to hand 10-man Liverpool a 2-1 win. And looking back on that day in an interview with liverpoolfc.com, Quansah says it was a ‘crazy’ feeling.

“It’s crazy, you can’t put it into words really,” says the centre-back. “It’s just an overwhelming feeling for my family of a lot of proud people, a lot of people that have seen me from when I was very young, took me to training on half-days, put in extra hours for me.

“So, just being able to pay my family with all that sort of love and what they have done for me was probably the best feeling. After making my debut, that was the best feeling that I could enjoy myself.”

Quansah recalls crazy debut

Prior to the summer, not many supporters would have seen Quansah coming in and having the impact that he has.

The academy defender has long had a reputation as being a potential option one day. But after a half-season loan in League One last year, it didn’t feel like that day was especially close.

Then came pre-season. Throughout the games played over in Germany and the Far East, Quansah showed that he’s ready to make the step to the Liverpool first-team.

From there, it must have been a bit of a whirlwind for Quansah. His curtain-raiser at Newcastle has been followed by five more appearances, including a first Premier League start and a European debut.

The England U21 international has so far cleared every hurdle put in-front of him.

With another Carabao Cup game to come tomorrow – this time away at Bournemouth, Quansah looks set to register his fourth start of the campaign.

It remains to be seen whether this is the start of a permanent residency in Klopp’s senior team.

So far though, the signs are there that this season could yet get even crazier for Quansah.
