41-year-old manager now visits Liverpool’s training ground today, just a day after being sacked

Former Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton has filmed himself visiting Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre today.

The 41-year-old is newly job-less, having been relieved of his duties at League One side Bristol Rovers only yesterday.

And, interestingly, Barton has seemingly spent a portion of his Friday with Liverpool.

Taking to Twitter this morning, the coach posted a quick video of the training pitches at the AXA. Captioned with the word ‘Kaizen’ – a Japanese concept of ‘continuous improvement,’ he appears to have been there to undertake a course of some description.

Born and raised in Liverpool, Barton did actually spend a brief time on the Reds’ books during his teenaged years. However, he was never signed officially and joined Manchester City’s academy instead.

From there he played for Newcastle United, QPR, Marseille, Burnley and Rangers in an occasionally controversial career.

Throughout his career, there never seemed much love lost between Barton and Liverpool, but perhaps management has changed his perspective.

Either way, let’s hope that today’s visit has nothing to do with taking on a role with the Reds.

Away from the much-publicised travails of his personal life, the one-cap England international has not had an auspicious start to his coaching career either.

Top jobs with Fleetwood Town and Bristol Rovers have now come without anything in the way of success. This doesn’t mean that Barton couldn’t be an effective youth coach perhaps, but given his personality, you can’t see him keeping quiet in such a role.

So, let’s hope this was simply the former midfielder attending a session with Liverpool and nothing more.

Having briefly managed Jarell Quansah at Bristol Rovers last season, Barton does have a link with the current Reds team. But if this is anything other then a flying visit, we’d be surprised.
