Reported Liverpool transfer target Nicolas Gonzalez has praised Reds legend Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool were credited with an interest in Gonzalez in the Italian press over the weekend. The 25-year-old is currently in brilliant form for Fiorentina.

However, despite links with the Reds and Chelsea, ESPN carry quotes from Gonzalez in which he names his ‘dream’ transfer – and it’s not to Liverpool.

“I’m really looking forward to playing for River [Plate],” says the Argentina international. “I want my brother to see me in that shirt. It would be very special. But today I’m in Europe. One day I hope it will come true.”

As well as speaking on which club he’d love to sign for, Gonzalez also reportedly touched on a couple of other topics.

Although no quotes are attributed to him, the former Stuttgart forward names Liverpool’s Salah as the best winger in the world right now.

Gonzalez also reportedly claimed that Argentine legend Angel Di Maria is the player he models his game on the most.

Gonzalez makes Salah claim

If Liverpool really do need to start thinking about replacing Salah next summer, then perhaps Gonzalez could be a candidate.

Now 25, the Fiorentina man has been steadily building into a super player.

That is well within Liverpool’s price range and perhaps cheaper than other options, such as Bayern’s Leroy Sane.

He may not be the star name that Sane is, but Gonzalez is much more ‘on brand’ as a Reds signing, too.

As a left-footed right-winger, it’s easy to draw similarities between he and Salah. Mo of course previously shone with Fiorentina and then Roma in Serie A as well.

The links are still tentative but Gonzalez is certainly a player well worth keeping an eye on for Liverpool fans this season. As for Salah, of course he’s the best in the world, come on.
