Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai says he was surprised by the atmosphere for today’s Merseyside Derby.
The Reds picked Everton off 2-0 to move top of the table at lunchtime on Saturday, two goals from Mohamed Salah doing the damage.
It was fairly common result for Liverpool in this fixture, but it was a number of Reds player’s first taste of facing their city rivals.
And speaking about his debut experience of the Reds vs the Blues to TNT Sports, Szoboszlai admitted it had been better than he had expected.

“Playing at Anfield is something special and playing against Everton is a derby,” began the Hungarian.
“I didn’t expect that [that it would be so loud] but it feels nice.
“I expected it was going to be good, but not that loud. I played in a lot of stadiums but this is one of the best.”
Szoboszlai enjoys first taste of Everton
Given some of the explosive football we’ve seen from him this season, Szoboszlai was slightly quiter today.
The 22-year-old is a top footballer though, and he still manages to look silky even if he’s not influencing the game.
That was evident at Anfield once again today, as he linked up beautifully with Alexis Mac Allister and Trent Alexander-Arnold in particular.

On this occasion, that clever interchanging didn’t lead to anything tangible, but it’s a joy to watch at times.
Derby games are never a great indication of the level of a team – and neither are 12.30 kick-offs after international breaks.
But Liverpool and Szoboszlai got through an awkward looking game in tact. With three very win-able fixtures now to come in the Premier League, it’s time to kick on.
As for Anfield, it didn’t sound at its loudest for much of the afternoon today. It was just one of the games that didn’t really inspire the crowd all that much. Nevertheless, Dom clearly felt the support and very much feels at home.
