Jamie Carragher has lauded the impact of Jurgen Klopp’s substitutes against Everton today.
The Reds were looking a little one-paced following the international break against the ten-men Toffees. With Everton packing bodies behind the ball, Klopp turned to Harvey Elliott and Darwin Nunez.
And it was an inspired decision as it turned out. Nunez in particular was fantastic, laying on the second goal for Salah with aplomb.
Elliott too injected some much-needed energy, with Carragher praising both on Twitter after the game. “Nunez & Elliott brilliant from the bench!” wrote the Reds legend.

Elliott and Nunez make the difference
With the Reds really toiling at times this afternoon, it was always going to take the energy of Nunez to light things up.
The Uruguayan wasn’t always tidy against Everton, but he certainly was effective. His perfectly timed assist for Salah capping off another impressive performance in red.
Some will no doubt have been disappointed not to see Nunez on the teamsheet to start the game. But having travelled with Uruguay – and also picked up a little cramp – that was never likely.

Nevertheless, Darwin still made his mark, registering a third Premier League assist of the campaign.
As for Elliott, he almost had a goal himself. Had his thunderous long-range strike not been tipped over by Jordan Pickford, it would have been one of the great Merseyside Derby goals.
Even without the goal though, Elliott was industrious and energetic on the ball, giving the Reds some much-needed impetus.
After good performances today, we’d expect to see both back in the starting line-up for Thursday’s clash with Toulouse.
