Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has reacted after England qualified for Euro 2024 last night.

The Three Lions swept past Italy to book their place at next summer’s tournament with two games to spare.

Alexander-Arnold was – typically – an unused substitute in Gareth Southgate’s squad. But the Reds defender still seemed overjoyed with the win, taking to Twitter after game to share his delight.

“Qualified,” Trent wrote, posting a picture of him cheering alongside two-goal hero Harry Kane and James Maddison.

Hopefully the 25-year-old can force his way into the England XI between now and the tournament starting. We won’t hold our breath, though.

Trent reacts to England result

Although he clearly isn’t a key player for Southgate, Alexander-Arnold still appears to enjoy his time away with England.

He has a great relationship with the likes of Maddison and Jude Bellingham and still impresses whenever given the chance to.

Nevertheless, it’s hard to get away from the feeling that the Liverpool man is simply being underused by Southgate.

The England boss has previously played him in midfield. And given the lack of football Kalvin Phillips has had this season, perhaps he could have started Trent in there instead of the City man last night.

If everyone’s fit, there’s no way Alexander-Arnold starts at right-back. As ludicrous as that is, it isn’t going to change between now and next summer.

From a Liverpool point of view, it doesn’t really matter. The less Trent plays, the less likely he is to pick up an injury. That’s good news for us.

Regardless, it would be nice to see the Scouser’s unique talent given the platform they deserve. He won’t be the first top-class player to have an underwhelming international career, but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating. Still, he seems happy enough.
